With a natural interest and talent in art and design, artist Patty Mackey has decorated cakes for the past 39 years. Her clients would say her cakes were so beautiful she should put them on canvas. She enrolled in art classes and started using the technique called Impasto, utilized by 17th century master painters who applied paint to their canvases in thick layers to create textures. Makey found this oil painting method to be more the same consistency as frosting, giving her paintings a 3-D effect, bringing her subjects to life. Main Event Gallery hours are 11 am-5 pm, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays. For information: tcacarts@gmail.com
